Apply to Join N3AS as a Postdoctoral Fellow in 2023
The NSF Physics Frontiers Center Network for Neutrinos, Nuclear Astrophysics, and Symmetries (N3AS) intends to make four postdoctoral Fellow appointments for positions starting in fall 2023.
N3AS provides a unique multi-disciplinary environment for postdoctoral Fellows to address fundamental questions in astrophysics, cosmology, nuclear physics, and particle physics. All N3AS appointments are made through UC Berkeley. Fellows receive a salary of $74K, a generous travel allowance to enable travel to other N3AS institutions and collaboration with other N3AS members, and a relocation allowance.
This year N3AS is running two different searches:
- One position in the general area of gravitational-wave data analysis and connections to the modeling of binary neutron star mergers and core collapse supernovae. This Fellow would be hosted by one or more of New Hampshire, Penn State, or Stony Brook, centers of N3AS modeling. Candidates interested in this opportunity should apply at Academic Jobs Online #22510 and contact Francois Foucart (email: francois.foucart@unh.edu), Jim Lattimer (email: james.lattimer@stonybrook.edu), David Radice (email: david.radice@psu.edu), or B. S. Sathyaprakash (email: bss25@psu.edu) if they have questions.
- Three positions in studies of dark matter, dense matter, neutrino physics, and nucleosynthesis that impact gravitational waves and their interpretation, neutron stars and their mergers, and supernovae. Host institutions for these Fellowships are Kentucky, Notre Dame, and Ohio University. At the start of year three, contingent on satisfactory progress, these Fellows could continue their appointments at a second Network institution of their choice. Candidates interested in these opportunities should apply at: Academic Jobs Online #22619 and contact Susan Gardner (svg@pa.uky.edu), Daniel Phillips (phillid1@ohio.edu), or Rebecca Surman (rsurman@nd.edu) if they have questions.
Candidates should have a recent Ph.D. (on or after September 2020) in theoretical physics or astrophysics and the ability to work productively within a diverse and collaborative research environment, producing and publishing original research, and presenting that research effectively in seminars and scientific meetings. Requested application materials: Please submit a CV, a publication list, a statement of research interest, and three letters of reference using the links listed above.
Interested candidates are requested to submit their applications before November 30, 2022 to ensure full consideration. As early reviews of applications will begin November 16, any candidate who can apply by this earlier date is encouraged to do so.
Fellow benefits packages will be continuous over the three-year appointments, provided through UC Berkeley. UC Berkeley is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, age, or protected veteran status.
