Magneto-Optic Kerr Effect (MOKE)

In this REU project, students will learn the basic principle of Magneto-Optic Kerr Effect (MOKE) and apply MOKE to the study of magnetic ultrathin films.

The goal is (1) to understand the principle of MOKE from the knowledge of undergraduate level electromagnetism and quantum mechanics, and (2) to operate MOKE apparatus to obtain hysteresis loops of ferromagnetic ultrathin films with atomic layer sensitivity.
